John graduated from Cambridge University, United Kingdom. He has more than 17 years of experience in a wide range of litigation and arbitration matters, including disputes in the areas of banking, contracts, employment, equitable remedies, international trade, investment, misrepresentation, sale and supply of goods and services, renovation, tenancy and torts.
John has an active court practice and his court cases have been reported in both the High Court and the Court of Appeal. Some recent reported cases include matters where he acted for an offshore investment company in its claim against a regional bank for breach of a loan facility, a property REIT in its claim against its tenant for arrears of rental and a multi-national company in its application for an interim injunction to compel its concrete supplier to perform the supply contract.
In his arbitration practice, he has acted for a multi-national company in a SIAC arbitration involving a dispute over its supplier’s breach of contract, a multi-national company in a SIAC arbitration involving a dispute over renovation works done at a reputable Singapore town club, and a precedent partner of a large Hong Kong law firm in an ad-hoc arbitration involving his partnership dispute with another partner.
John also regularly advises corporate and private clients on their contractual and employment matters, and has experience in the review and drafting of employment contracts.
John makes it part of his practice to understand the perspectives and needs of his clients and to provide practical and cost-effective solutions to them. He strongly believes that with timely advice, suitable matters can best be resolved through mediation.
John is the recipient of the International Law Office (ILO) Client Choice Awards 2013 for the arbitration category in Singapore.
